Film Review: Nebraska at Michigan State, 2021

I disassemble an interesting game - schematic, technical and in terms of performance - from a football match in Nebrasas, Michigan, 2021.

The first general opinion:

Positive Nebraska

  • The defense turned the corner. Very disciplined throughout the game, from front to back. A very small explosive game is allowed
  • DL, especially DC, are very good. Breakthrough, strong, athletic.
  • LB understands the pattern and what the violations point to. They are athletic enough to play, but most importantly, they play in defense.
  • Offenses do begin to show different patterns and sequences.
Nebraska Negative

  • OL is really problematic. The right is shouting, but in general PR is fighting. So hard to plan for success though OL
  • Martinez has the ability to play out of the game, but he still doesn’t play a game he planned to play too consistently.
  • In terms of protection, they are quite static. Aside from a few late safety rotations and clouds, you know what you usually get from them in defense (perhaps oversimplification to boost departures early in the season).
Michigan positive results
  • People from the position of skills continue to play outside the game, creating explosive elements that were not there before this year.
  • I really like this DL. The ends, though not super-sporty, are very disciplined in their passage, with dives and breaks, a bull jerk and inward movements to defeat the kidneys. DC current losses from running.
  • Now you have two fans who could potentially change the world for the better in Salvation and Ni. It helps that the front devotes itself to running.

Michigan is negative
  • As the competition gets tougher, OL is struggling to consistently block. In that match a lot was fought with the interior, especially in midfield. Some problems with technique as well as problems with aiming.
  • I think running games can have performance issues. It’s mostly the Olympics, but Nebraska has slightly adapted what they saw in the Miami movies (to fit their scheme), but is held with more discipline, and the running games mostly close in front of OD. The explosive element remains if Walker can miss someone, but there’s a chance the gameplay will be pretty random, especially with limited variety.
  • I thought it was just a game for QB after it hit, but something to look out for in the future.
  • The Back 7 still has some issues with coverage inside and outside the LB. Nebraska has had great success with their TE compared to LB levels.
