I analyze an interesting game - layout, technique and performance - from the 2021 Michigan football game in Miami.
Some general thoughts:
Some thoughts
- Walker continues to demonstrate his incredible vision and ability to dispel perspective. I haven't seen that much of the options, but with a rough cut it has to accept it. But it has to be ascertained whether OL can systematically make holes in the inner track and whether Walker can always take advantage of it.
- Speaking of orienteering, they still achieved their goal in the race, at least quite well. I've seen them sweep the Miami DL a lot, aided by the amount of movement Miami uses forward (another reason to attack the edge in the middle makes sense), but not a lot of doubles or pure thrust on the inside. Pass Pro is a bit more difficult in this game, but that's to be expected given the exotic pressures Miami applies.
- Thorne's presence in his pocket so far has been excellent and his short-range stance, even under pressure, gives players a chance to play. It should be noted that there are very few passes on the pitch. Is it a Miami security feature? It's hard to tell why most camera angles suck. But I think there were only two launches over 15 meters deep. Don't worry about hand strength at this point, but timing, readability, and accuracy can be a challenge.
- DL continues to do its job. Very disciplined, especially in racing, especially in DE.
- LB is the day of the tides. You see flashes of good things, you see the strain and physique of most of the band members, but the actual performance goes way beyond that.
- The outer CB looks more comfortable for humans, but the inner shell is not. You get a lot of cover which is very safe, stand low and drive under it which basically means Zone (appears to be Cover 3 and Cover 4 MOD). We will see how easy it will be to mix Cover 1 all year round. However, one thing, if they were to continue with this strategy, the travel gear had to be clean.
First in the game was Miami trying to stay dormant and DE was in the perfect position to hold out pic.twitter.com/619SBqXY3m

A little sprint game to throw on the pitch. MSU does not reach the correct level in humans. Fortunately there is no bigger win than pic.twitter.com/UuoPKV1v4W

The HEAT pressure on flashes 1 and 10 is coming from deep inside and Miami could get into the open receiver pic.twitter.com/ozvCpQvk7M

MSU has released many of the covers they have performed under Dantonio, but they seem to be more focused on variety than similar covers

King beats the RPO metrics (block forward, several back passes). Raja looks uncomfortable as she walks. Great job with DE tracking and hitting from behind, similar to pic.twitter.com/PSzda011wg screen

Fixed this trick on MSU (instead of working on the zone principle, making blocking more difficult). I don't know what awaits LB but if you give Walker the edge he'll get you pic.twitter.com/hjbATnZ4Ug

Hard PAP. Either a rough road without waiting for a man, or a tough game. Results on the stock exchange pic.twitter.com/i89DM0EV5x

I like to cut the first part to see if we can catch the trend. 3. and long and not really threatening path to go down. Don't blame the check, but pay attention to pic.twitter.com/jFRsxwzWxd

The full slides don't do much defense except for fast play in my version. I challenged young OL, but that's how you get Fitz Toussaint 2013 in Calhoun

Delicious boxing / hard work. Could save 5 yards in this game, at least bigger RB can rock security pic.twitter.com/MDxMC0DyjO

Nice simple design to strike the lightning bolt you get with Miami. Throw the ball in time and that helps with the meters. Lightning attack pic.twitter.com/l2qXYGlWgZ

Miami plays the opposite technique to the separation zone. MSU has lost its target location. That's where I need to improve, one of the first true champions I've seen in an MSU racing unit pic.twitter.com/XqMOfR2iRf

A good take on this game is to cut it. Pressing on the edge should be much more disciplined pic.twitter.com/Xku7bBYfOH

I'm here to learn about MSU, but Miami is very wild in its blitz and relies too much on the players running up front to handle the lead. Wrapping the DT to the edge towards the outer zone will get you through a lot of flips. I think this has been a fairly constant complaint from Diaz over the years.
- Space Coyote (@SpaceCoyoteBDS) September 21, 2021
They have combos in which they move DT quite well. Lose more

I have seen it in several volumes, so it seems appropriate to me to mention it. The MSU agreed with the box number but tried to fix it by cutting the front LB with a lunge. Hard to ask pic.twitter.com/8uRIKepBPJ

The biggest thing I'm skeptical about the MSU is its coverage. They are very good at seeing from below. They did not get here and the defenders of the area did not approach the receiver. My biggest concern for their team has to be the whole team pic.twitter.com/tqI9Mg8aJ2

It appears that MSU is intentionally sending union blocks and WR slices to the same LB for its many zones. Maybe to increase the rebounding capacity? But I've done it many times pic.twitter.com/5U4Dq0E8Z6
